“1 See, the LORD is going to lay waste the earth and devastate it; he will ruin its face and scatter its inhabitants— 2 it will be the same for priest as for people, for the master as for his servant, for the mistress as for her servant, for seller as for buyer, for borrower as for lender, for debtor as for creditor. 3 The earth will be completely laid waste and totally plundered. The LORD has spoken this word. 4 The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers, the heavens languish with the earth. 5 The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left… 19 The earth is broken up, the earth is split asunder, the earth is violently shaken. 20 The earth reels like a drunkard, it sways like a hut in the wind; so heavy upon it is the guilt of its rebellion that it falls—never to rise again. 21 In that day the LORD will punish the powers in the heavens above and the kings on the earth below. 22 They will be herded together like prisoners bound in a dungeon; they will be shut up in prison and be punished after many days. 23 The moon will be dismayed, the sun ashamed; for the LORD Almighty will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before its elders—with great glory.” Isaiah 24

To this point and in spite of evil throughout the centuries, we have been living in a time of the “favor” of the Lord. Jesus even said that that part of Isaiah 61 was fulfilled in Himself (Luke 4). He clearly and abruptly stopped reading at that point in the passage. The very next words He would have read, had He continued, would have been “and the day of the vengeance of our God” (vs 2b). God’s vengeance was not for then. But, today we have crossed that line. And the earth is literally shaking…everywhere.

How can I say this? Look around you. Read world news. Read what they are NOT talking about in the nightly news. The news is all over the internet from viable sources. The world is burning or flooded or plagued; every place hot is now cold, and what was cold is now hot; crops are wiped out in the heartland of America to Africa to the Middle East to Australia to China where they are “recycling” thrown away food. The sea and the waves are roaring tempestuously as tropical storms ravage different parts of the world from China to Texas. Right now you can go out for dinner (as long as you wear a mask and social distance), and you are able to go to the grocery store to pick up what you need for breakfast, lunch, dinner and every snack in between. But there is a day not too far away that you will be unable to do this either because of exorbitant prices or scarcity or both.

Here are some of the stats: Locusts have plagued Asia, Africa, and the Middle East; fires have charred Australia, Russia, Siberia, California and other parts of both the southwestern and northwestern U.S.; flooding is getting worse in China, has destroyed crops in parts of the U.S., and swamped India and Italy; heatwaves have soared exorbitantly high in places known for being cold like Siberia, and cold snaps have frozen places like South America with record frigid weather; strange inland hurricanes called Derecho devastated a 700 mile swath through several states including Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan and Iowa where grain bins were destroyed and it wiped out 10 million acres of crops; and if this were not bad enough, the powers that be in America have instructed cattle farmers to euthanize their beef; there is a tin can shortage which means there will be a canned food shortage, a coin shortage, mounds and mounds of onions and peaches and shrimp have been recalled because of “possible” salmonella, and lemons, limes, oranges, potatoes,  have been recalled because of “possible” listeria. Furthermore, state governments have been hording large amounts of food (like peanut butter) in warehouses. (Sources for all this is listed below for your convenience).

Could we be in the beginning of this “shaking” spoken of in Isaiah 24? Sound intense? Pardon the expression, but “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!”

Man has been and is polluting the earth, and I don’t mean with oil spills (although this is horrible) or car exhaust (which stinks). God even mentions those who are the “destroyers of the earth” (Revelation 11:18) and that the earth is “defiled by its people” (Isaiah 24:5). These destroyers are those who kill perfectly good animals for no good reason, dump gallons and gallons of perfectly good milk, and allow crops to rot in the fields. These destroyers are those who recalled perfectly good vegetables because one of them may or may not be contaminated. These destroyers have manipulated DNA, spliced genes, hacked the genetic code, created hybrid vegetables and animals, cloned animals and who knows what else, and are now incorporating all of this into vaccines. These are the destroyers who condone sexual immorality. These are the destroyers who turn a blind eye to adultery and other sexual perversions. These are the destroyers who mutilate their bodies or another’s body with sex changes. These destroyers are those who sterilize young girls, paralyze, and destroy the quality of life of millions of children with vaccines. These destroyers are those who are releasing genetically modified mosquitoes. These are the destroyers who practice eugenics via abortion and euthanasia via sedation and talk of quality of life, etc. These are the destroyers who have been poisoning our food supply for years via pesticides (that are not safe for consumption, nor have they proved it to be safe) and genetic engineering (the seeds abort themselves so that the plant does not continue producing). These are the destroyers who have tainted our water supply with fluoride, and sprayed our skies with heavy metals (chem-trails). These destroyers are those scientists and doctors who play god and really think that they will never be held accountable.

The rabbit hole goes deeper and deeper and deeper. Isaiah 24 goes on to say that the weight of the guilt of its rebellion lies heavily upon the earth. What we are witnessing today is the grave guilt of rebellious man and the death throes of this world (the land, the nations, the animals, and the people). Everything is passing away, and we are seeing it first hand. Jesus even said, “Heaven and earth will pass away…” (Matthew 7:16). Romans 8 speaks of the earth and all of creation groaning in anguish collectively, all together, with one voice. Second Peter 3:10 tells us that when Jesus returns, “the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

Some say, our hope is in the election. If so-and-so gets elected there is hope. Really? Do you really want to place your hope in a human? God was angry with Israel for placing their hope in Egypt, why would He see our hope in a politician any differently? God was angry with Israel for wanting a human king in place of His Lordship, why would He treat us any differently for placing our hope in a president? And really, how can one politician help against impending doom? What mortal or angel or scientist or guru or magician can fix this? This is a God-sized problem that can only be healed by our gut-wrenching repentance followed by His unmerited mercy.

This earth is dying. This earth is passing away. This earth is about to be shaken by Almighty God because of the godless, rebels who live upon it and destroy it with their debauchery and witchcraft. “Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea…” (Revelation 12:12). Those who call this world “home” are in for a rude awakening. Americans and Europeans may not be hungry now, but the hunger is coming at breakneck speed to their front door. The desperation is coming like a freight train. The darkness is descending like a tidal wave. The Judge is coming through the door; Psalm 96 and 98 and Isaiah 24 incredibly portray this powerful picture!!

Remember, Christians, this world is not our home. If is inferred in Revelation 12:12 that Christians are one of the heaven dwellers. Even Abraham, an exceedingly rich, prominent and well-respected man, “looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God” (Hebrews 11:10). Second Peter 3:11-14 says, “11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. 14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.”

The Apostle John writes, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever,” (1 John 2:15-17, emphasis added is mine).

Are we looking for God’s Kingdom? Or are we still too caught up in this life? Are we conducting ourselves in holiness and in complete, unadulterated devotion to God? Or are we more concerned about what others think or feel or how we think or feel? Do we even care that this world is polluted with sin and filth and depravity? Are we grieved by the evil that has been listed in this article, or is it like water off of a duck’s back? Are we still clinging to even the good things of this world like Lot’s wife clung to Sodom?

“See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:29 For our God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:25-29)

It’s all coming to an end, and God’s Kingdom is coming very soon. And all that can be shaken will be shaken. All that can be removed will be removed. I pray that from now on when you look around at the beauty that is here that you will think, “I haven’t seen anything yet! God has created a city for us. Jesus has built on to His father’s house for us (John 14). And Jesus promised to come soon to get us and take us home (John 14)!”

Until then, let’s be selfless. Let’s share Jesus with someone today at the grocery store, while out on our walk, with our own family, with friends on facebook; write a letter and make someone’s day and encourage them that Jesus is coming soon; bake cookies and take them to your neighbor in Jesus’ name. Find a ministry that has their doors “open” and who is really sharing the Gospel and loving each other and give money to them or give to the poor personally or via reputable ministries so that you can lay up treasure in heaven (Matthew 6). Like the title of an old, eccentric, funny but very poignant movie, You Can’t Take It With You! (More to come on this topic of Kingdom Currency in a later article).

So shake off the shackles of this world. Relinquish all ties to this earth. Let go of its pleasures, even its goodness, for it all is passing away. Release your American dream, for it too is like a corpse. See things for what they are. It is time to move on. It is time to go home.
